We start with the main listening position and available wall and ceiling locations. A 7.1.4 layout uses seven main speakers, one subwoofer and four overhead or height speakers. A room with two subwoofers may be described as 7.2.4. More channels are useful only when placement, coverage and processing support them.
We check receiver or processor channel capacity, amplification, speaker coverage, mounting and cable access. Commissioning includes channel assignment, polarity, levels, distances and bass integration, followed by listening checks. Exact placement follows the selected Dolby layout and the room constraints.
Often the starting point is a survey of the ceiling, cable paths, existing speakers and receiver. We confirm feasibility before recommending overhead speakers or new electronics.
